Raised in Chicago of Czech parents Barbara lived in Athens before cutting her performance teeth in the cabarets of Berlin. She has been exciting European critics since her debut album in 1990 with plaintive but intense songs sung in a touchingly fragile luminous voice. Between 1995 and this year's album "Purify" on Naive she studied painting with the Swiss painter Giger and published several collections of poetry. Her latest set of songs magnificently reflect her influences, Townes Van Zandt or Rickie Lee Jones whilst evoking a Germanic world-weary angst reminiscent of Marianne Faithfull
